Super Fab Lab Oulu

You can utilize Fab Lab equipment to fabricate your own prototypes or meet the requirements for different research and educational projects.

In order to book machines and use the Fab Lab premises read these instructions.

You can find more information about our machines, including tutorials on how to operate them and prepare files in our wiki space.

Machines available at Fab Lab Oulu:

• Laser cutters: Cut and engrave multiple materials, including wood, plastic, fabric, and cardboard. Learn more about available laser cutters and operation instructions.
• Vinyl cutters: Cut vinyl for decoration, masking processes. You can also fabricate flexible circuits. Find more information about the vinyl cutters available at Fab Lab.
• 3D printers: Build your 3D model out of plastic (PLA, ABS), resin or nylon. Have a look to the machines available at Fab Lab as well as its operating instructions.
• CNC Precision Milling Machine: Carve wood, create molds and fabricate PCBs. Read the guidelines on how to utilize the Roland GSM-20.
• CNC Wood Router: Fabricate big molds and build pieces of furniture. Carefully read the instructions on how to create 3D models for the router.
• Digital Embroidery: Create patches or decoration for fabric. Create wearables. Have a look on the digital embrioidery instructions.
• 3D scanner: We have different 3D scanning solutions.
• Electronics measurement and fabrication equipment: Solder or stuff components and test electronic circuits.

Follow these instructions to use the machines at Fab Lab

Following information will be valid again when COVID-19 restrictions are completely over.

1. Register to our Fab Lab Oulu Scheduler
2. Come for a visit to explore our machines and capabilities
3. Design your own work
4. Ask help for estimating how much time your work needs
5. Reserve the machines you need from the Fab Lab Scheduler
6. Bring your own materials
7. You are responsible for the use of machines at your reserved time slot
8. Some machines need to be attended at all times while in use
9. Take extra materials with you or donate them to Fab Lab (Fab Lab is NOT a storage for user's own materials).
10. All material left in Fab Lab without identification will be considered a donation to Fab Lab.
11. In general, you can use our machines for free. See exceptions below.
12. Some leftover materials can be found in Fab Lab (come and check for yourself)
13. Our staff can help you with the machines and design problems, but they are not going to do the work for you.

In general, machine usage is free. However, the utilization of machines is subject to a fee when:

• You are selling the products or getting any economical benefit out of the products you have fabricated using Fab Lab equipment.
• When you use our machines for mass production (e.g. you are laser cutting dozens of units of the same object).

Using our machines for prototyping is still free of cost.

Please note that when using Fab Lab you should bring your own materials.
