Diploma Conferment Ceremony

A Diploma conferment ceremony is the graduation ceremony held in the faculties where the diplomas and certificates are given. Usually the ceremonies take place in the end of each semester. The program may also include speeches, performances and coffee service. Usually, pre-registrations are requested, and the dress code is black tie or smart casual. There are some differences in ceremony practices of the faculties. Remember to check your own faculties instructions!

Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine

Graduation schedule for degree students

Graduation events of Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine are organized in the last graduation day of the semester on May and December. You are allowed to invite two quests. Kaisa Tuominen will sent a separate invitation for graduation event to all students who have sent the application for degree certificate. All students that have graduated at that semester are welcome to the graduation event.

Oulu Business School

Graduation schedule for degree students

Oulu Business School graduation event is organized twice in the fall semester and twice in the spring semester. At the graduation ceremony, a copy of the electronic diploma is distributed to the graduating students. You can bring max. 3 persons as your avec. The dress code for the event is smart casual.

Please remember to register also for the graduation event, when you fill out the electronic degree application in Peppi . If you don't register for the graduation event, you can pick up the blue certificate folder at the service point KE1020. The University of Oulu does not mail copies of certificates or folders to graduated students

Those who have registered for the graduation event will be sent a separate invitation by e-mail, and the place where the event will be held is mentioned in the invitation.

Faculty of Humanities

In the Faculty of Humanities graduation ceremony (Diploma Conferment Ceremony) is held twice a year, in December and in June.

Graduating students can register for the graduation ceremony when filling in the degree application in Peppi.

Faculty of Education and Psychology

The Diploma Conferment Ceremony will be organized at the Faculty of Education and Psychology max. two times per academic year.

The exact times and other details of the ceremonies will always be informed separately.

The student must always register for the ceremony separately - registration link will be informed via email and added to this webpage (below). The registration made via Peppi graduation application is not enough.

Faculty of Science

The Diploma Conferment Ceremony (Publiikki) of the Faculty of Science is organized twice a year, in June and December. Registration for the event is done by the degree application form. You can invite two guests and one staff member to the event. When registering, remember to inform the number of your guests and their possible food allergies.

The next Faculty of Science Diploma Conferment Ceremony is organized:
on June 15th at 2 p.m., in lecture hall L2.

Bachelors and masters graduated in December 2022 and during spring 2023 can participate in the event (registration required).

Any subsequent registrations for the event must be made by 31.5. to the address study.science@oulu.fi .

Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering

Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering arrange joint Diploma Conferment Ceremonies. In the ceremonies, degree certificates will be given to Bachelor and Master graduates of both faculties (Bachelors attend either December or June ceremonies).

Estimated time of the ceremony is 1 hour. Graduates sign up for the ceremony via their degree certificate applications. Separate invitations are not sent. Please note that the amount of guests of the graduates (avecs) is limited.

Timetable for graduation

The Diploma Conferment Ceremony will be held in Saalastinsali (HR145), except on 16.11 (in L2), 25.1 (in L2) and 16.5 (in L2). More info about the ceremony: study.technology(at)oulu.fi

During holidays the delivery time of the Degree Certificates might be longer.

The Diploma Conferment Ceremony will not be organized in July. Graduates can join the Ceremony in August.

Medicine

Oulun yliopiston lääketieteellisen tiedekunnan valmistuneiden lääkäreiden ja hammaslääkäreiden valajuhla järjestetään syksyisin erikseen ilmoitettavana ajankohtana.

Dentistry

Hammaslääketieteen tutkinto-ohjelman viidennellä vuosikurssilla on kevään päätteeksi oma päätösjuhla, johon kutsutaan opetukseen osallistuvat henkilöt ja omaiset. Lisäksi syksyisin järjestetään valmistuneiden lääkäreiden ja hammaslääkäreiden valatilaisuus.

Health Sciences

There is no Diploma Conferment Ceremony in health sciences.

Biomedical Engineering MHSc

Graduates of the master´s programme in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Medicine (Masters of Health Sciences) can participate in the Diploma Conferment Ceremony organized jointly by the Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

The graduates will receive an official electronic degree certificate and transcript, but in the ceremony copies of educational documents will be handed out in university´s folder.

In addition, the ceremony may include speeches, presentations and coffee service. The ceremony is one of the academic events and the proposed dress code is "business suit". Estimated duration of the ceremony is one hour. You will find the ceremony dates in the graduation timetable.

Graduates can sign up for the ceremony when applying for the graduation and degree certificate in Peppi. Separate invitations will not be sent.

In addition to registration for the ceremony in application form for graduation, kindly inform about your participation by sending an email to study.technology(at)oulu.fi with subject "Diploma Conferment Ceremony, graduate of biomedical engineering at the Faculty of Medicine". You can bring two (2) guests with you and inform also about their participation in the email.

Medical and Wellness Technology

There is no separate Diploma Conferment Ceremony for students of the Bachelor´s degree in Medical and Wellness Technology, but graduates of the master´s programme can participate in the Diploma Conferment Ceremony organized jointly by the Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

The graduates will receive an official electronic degree certificate and transcript, but in the ceremony copies of educational documents will be handed out in university´s folder.

Kindly note, that there are only two possible ceremony months for graduating Bachelors depending on their actual graduation date. Bachelors graduating in autumn attend in ceremony in December and Bachelors graduating in spring - in ceremony in June. Graduating Masters will be able to attend in any of the available ceremonies.

Graduates can sign up for the ceremony when applying for the graduation and degree certificate in Peppi. Separate invitations will not be sent.
