Personal Study Plan - PSP

A personal study plan (PSP) based on the student´s degree programme curriculum is a plan that students inspect and edit for themselves.

What is the PSP?

A personal study plan (PSP) is a plan that students inspect and edit for themselves. It contains the contents, extent and duration of their studies. The degree structure of a student's degree programme is used as the basis of this study plan. The PSP helps students stay on schedule and advance in their studies. The plan must be updated as their studies progress.

When inspecting and editing their personal study plans, students should write down their hopes and goals regarding their studies and professional skills. The PSP helps students personalise their degrees and choose minor subjects and optional studies to accompany their compulsory studies.

Students should familiarise themselves with their subject's study guide early on in their studies and think about their course selections and schedules in the long term. When planning a PSP, long-term thinking stresses the relevance of the overall study programme and helps students realize the time required to complete a degree.

Course pre-requisites and the different tasks (lectures, exercises, projects, exams, etc.) required for successful completion of courses should also be taken into account when editing a PSP. Other matters potentially affecting the progress of studies (family, hobbies, work, etc.) should also factor into the PSP planning process in big picture.

PSP tutoring

Students receive PSP tutoring from their personal tutor teachers or other PSP tutors appointed by the faculty. Students can also contact their education designers for help.

PSP on Peppi

Peppi PSP action allows students to design a personal study plan for their entire degree, based on degree structures on Peppi. The Peppi PSP allows students to see their completed and upcoming courses, which makes it easier for both students and their advisors to follow PSP progress.

For you

Oulu Business School

Business School student must have a valid personal study plan (PSP). Student will receive help and support for preparing the RSP from master’s programme coordinator.

Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering

All students must have an approved PSP in Peppi. Without the approved PSP, the student can not graduate. The degree is compiled according to PSP, so it is mandatory that PSP is up-to-date. PSP will make study and graduation process easier and faster.

If there are course modifications in the original PSP, it needs approval again. If you have questions about PSP, please contact your named Tutor Teacher or Education Designer at study.itee@oulu.fi.

The updated PSP must be sent:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science and Engineering: International students must send PSP to Anabela Goncalves Berenguer, Finnish students must send PSP to named Tutor Teacher (or Education Designer, study.itee@oulu.fi).
  • Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering (BME): Students must send PSP to Tapio Seppänen.
  • Master's Programme in Electrical Engineering: Students must send PSP to named Tutor Teacher (or Education Designer).
  • Master's Programme in Information Processing Sciences: Students must send PSP in the Peppi-system to the named Tutor Teacher (or Education Designer).
  • Master's Programme in Wireless Communication Engineering (WCE): Students must send PSP to Kari Kärkkäinen.
  • Digitalisation, Computing and Electronics (DICE):
    • 2021-2023 started students study@itee.fi
    • 2024 started DICE students
      • Computer Science and Engineering: Anja Keskinarkaus and Teemu Tokola
      • Electronics: Marko Neitola and Jari Hannu

Digitalisation, Computing and Electronics

DICE -programme change 1.8.2024

The Bachelor’s Programme in Digitalisation, Computing and Electronics (DICE) has three tracks in
the programme: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Commucations Engineering,
Information Processing Science. The courses for these tracks were provided jointly by the three main programmes of the Faculty, namely the degree programmes in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, and Information Processing Science. In the year 2024, the Bachelor’s Programme in Digitalisation, Computing and Electronics will be merged into the three main programmes.

Students admitted to the DICE programme during the years 2021-2023 have the option to change to the main curriculum and continue their studies based on the main degree programme’s curriculum (see additional details and the get application form below). Starting in 2024, all new students accepted into DICE programme will follow the degree structures of the main degree programmes.

Completing your studies in DICE-programme

Students admitted during years 2021-2023

You can complete your degree either following the curriculum of your year of enrollment or change to the main degree programme to follow the latest curriculum of the main degree programme. Therefore, you have two options:

a) You can complete your degree studies according to the curriculum of your first year of enrollment. You should note that curriculum changes may occur annually, meaning not all courses listed in your study plan may be available in subsequent years. In study guidance, you will get information on which course can replace the discontinued one.

b) You may change to the main degree programme and complete your degree studies according to the curriculum of the academic year 2024–2025 (or newer), based on the field of study for which you were originally accepted into.
