Summer studies of Sustainable Development Minor and application period of Sustainability Studies Network

Are you interested in circular economy? How about animal philosophy or climate philosophy? What does sustainable space mean? The Sustainability Studies Network offers basic, intermediate, and advanced studies related to these and many other themes. Application period 1.–14.8.! In the University of Oulu's own Sustainable Development Minor (25 ECTS), there are also courses available for independent study during the summer.

Below are the courses available during this summer. Please check the registration period and specific practicalities on each course's own study guide page. For questions related to studying individual courses, please contact the responsible person for the respective course directly.

Sustainable Development Minor’s courses during summer 2024

Course in Environmental and Ecological sustainability:

Nature conservation: a geographic perspective, 5 ECTS

Courses in Social and Cultural sustainability:

Thinking and Talking about Climate, 2 ECTS (English version of the course will be published by the beginning of June).

Education and Equality, 5 ECTS

Sociological environment research, 5 ECTS

Arctic perspectives to gender and globalization, 5 ECTS

Anthropology of Sustainability, 5 ECTS

Climate, history and culture, 5 ECTS

Humans and the Environment, 5 ECTS

Cross-institutional studies through the Sustainability Studies Network – application period on 1.–14.8.!

Are you interested in circular economy? How about animal philosophy or climate philosophy? What does sustainable space mean? The Sustainability Studies Network offers basic, intermediate, and advanced studies related to these and many other themes.

The University of Oulu is a member of the Sustainability Studies Network. It consists of eleven Finnish higher education institutes, and it offers member institutes’ degree, doctoral, and exchange students studies related to sustainability, responsibility, and environment.

Network’s first application period for courses of the entire academic year 24–25 is at the beginning of August, from 1st to 14th of August 2024. The second application period for studies held in the spring semester 2025 is at the end of November, from 17th to 30th of November 2024.

You can include certain courses from the Sustainability Studies Network in the Sustainable Development Minor: check the courses that can be included from the minor's study guide. If you want to include courses from the network in another study module in your degree, discuss with your own degree programme coordinator.
