Kari Strand
My professorship in geology and mineralogy begun in 2008 and a special field is sedimentology particularly in climate and environmental change research in high latitude regions. I received my PhD in 1993 at the University of Oulu and in 1997 I was qualified for a docentship in geology and mineralogy with specialization in exogenic processes. Presently, I am a professor at the Oulu Mining School (Geosciences), Faculty of Technology, University of Oulu, Finland. In my research I am looking for physical, mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of sediments and stratigraphic evolution of sediment sequences in bedrock of Finland as well as in polar environments. My studies in crustal evolution of Fennoscandian bedrock is applying modern sequence stratigraphic methods and geochemistry. Precambrian basin evolution studies are concentrated a wide range of sedimentary and mineral deposits, especially sedimentary and hydrothermal ores. My teaching areas include sedimentology, sedimentary geology and mineral geochemistry, glacial geology, Arctic and Antarctic geology, Precambrian geology and mineral resources.
