July was warm and moist in Northern Finland - good conditions for growth. This year growths of the trees are of full length - and long!
Main part of forest plants have finished their flowering, now it is the time to make ripe seeds.
The berries of blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) are ripe already...
The are in this site the blight of marsh ledum (Chrysomyxa ledi) on the fresh needles of spruces (close-up foto!).
This is not fatal to the trees, but the contaminated needles will die.
It seems, that the blight of birch (Melampsora betulina) as well will be as an epidemic.

August was in the northern Finland fairly warm and damp, too. Now - at the turn of july/august - it is getting in the nature autumn:
soon will the berries of lingonberry (Vaccinium vitis-idaea) be ripe, straws of warry hair-grass (Deschamsia flexuosa) are yellowish...
The blight of birch (Melampsora betulina) has extended really to wide epidemic in all North Finland. (see foto 1.8.00!).
This blight pounces upon mainly to downy birch (Betula pubescens); silver birch (B. pendula) survive better.
Picture (left): large part of downy birches are fully rust-yellowish, but some birches are green - they re more resistant.
That is not the autumn colors, which will come to North Finland about 10. - 20.9. (starting from Lapland); the autumn colors
will stay away almost totally.

Autumn colors are soon over - however the good autumn colors did not exist in this year because the blight of birch (Melampsora betulina),
see fotos 1.8.00! Autumn colors on the fieldlayer are rather good (poor in this picture!). The old needles of pine dropped off quickly
in the middle of september. Now at the end of september the deciduous trees are nearly bare. The winter can start...

The fist part of october was - in view of season - very warm. Not until at the end of october was first time snowing
in the North Finland: the wind was cold! The weather is now (at the first days of november) again mild, the snowcover is disappearing.
