Assistant Professor
Dr. Hannu-Pekka Komsa is Assistant Professor (Tenure Track, started in 2020) in computational physics and nanomaterials. Currently, he is also an Academy Research Fellow (2017-2022) funded by the Academy of Finland. His research aims at advancing the understanding of how the material properties can be tuned by modifying its structure in the nanoscale, with special focus on defect engineering of 2D materials, with application prospects in ultrathin optoelectronics and smart materials for sensing. Another main theme is modeling the materials’ response to external stimuli such as light or electron irradiation, to aid in material characterization by experimental techniques such as electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy.
