Step by step guide to moving into a PSOAS apartment
If you are coming to Finland as a student of the University of Oulu, you will probably hear about PSOAS. PSOAS offers student housing services in Oulu. They provide affordable and high-quality accommodations to students with lots of facilities.
I am currently living in a PSOAS apartment, and today I will share my experiences with you.
How to apply for housing
My first tip to you is to apply for housing as early as possible since student housing during the autumn term has a high demand. PSOAS provides three types of apartment types.
- Shared apartments
- Studio apartments
- Family apartments
Shared apartments typically have two to three rooms. Then they have a kitchen and a bathroom which you have to share with other flatmates. The studio apartment is a self-contained space with a single room and a kitchen.
If you are moving in with your family, you can apply for a family apartment. In that case, you have several options where you can find an apartment with one bedroom, a living area, and a kitchen or two bedrooms, a living area, and a kitchen.
You can apply for an available apartment or an open application from the PSOAS website. If you make an open application, PSOAS will email you when suitable apartments are available.
Remember that the application is valid only for 60 days, and after that, you have to renew it by sending an email to PSOAS. But you don’t need to wait for that long to get an apartment from PSOAS
If you can’t find a suitable apartment from PSOAS, don’t worry, there are other options for you,
- Asuntoyhtymä
- Oulun Sivakka Oy
- Forenom
- Lumo
- M2 Kodit.
After you get the apartment
You have to pay the deposit, 250/300 per tenant in a shared apartment and 400 euros for studio and family apartments when you get an apartment offer. Then you will get your tenancy agreement for the apartment with PSOAS.
Now, all set, and you can move into your new apartment!
After you move-in
After you move in, you must sign up to the OmaPSOAS and submit an apartment report within four days. This will ensure that you will not be held responsible for any damages to the apartment.
The next important step is to access the internet connection for the apartment. All the PSOAS apartments have fixed internet connections with the DNA service provider. You can activate the internet connection by making a phone call to the DNA or by visiting a DNA shop.
Remember to pay the apartment rent by the 5th of every month.
For shared apartments, electricity is included in the rent. But if you are in a studio or a family apartment, you need to make an electricity contract separately. This can easily make online. Heating, water, and internet bills are included in your rent.
Services in PSOAS
PSOAS has an electronic fault report system, where If you face a faulty problem in your apartment, you can send a fault report using AVUX-system. They will fix the issue within three working days.
If you have any doubts or clarifications, you can contact PSOAS directly through their email (asuntotoimisto(at)psoas.fi). I hope these tips will help you with a smooth transition to Oulu! :)
