Abstracts of proposed papers, in either Chinese or English, are invited for contributions to the “Philosophy of History and Ancient Chinese Historiography” (PHACH) Project.

The Project is sponsored by the Guangqi International Center for Scholars, Shanghai Normal University.

Date of this call: May 4, 2021.

Deadline for Submission of Abstracts: August 31, 2021.

Abstracts should be no more than 500 words (English) or 800 characters (Chinese), excluding references.

We anticipate that contributors will use perspectives and insights developed in the last sixty years in literary/narrative theory and in philosophy of history broadly defined, to further our understanding of Chinese historical classics, historians, historical concepts, and historical thought. It is hoped that this work will also help establish a common discourse for exchange and dialogue between Chinese and Western scholars.

The organizers are Prof. Chen Xin, Zhejiang University (cxhistory [ät] 163.com), Assoc. Prof. Lai Guodong, Xiamen University (lgdhistory [ät] 163.com), and Prof. Allan Megill, University of Virginia (megill [ät] virginia.edu), who are supported by an international committee of expert advisors.

The editor of Journal of the Philosophy of History has expressed strong interest in publishing a special issue on ancient Chinese historiography, and an additional publication venue is also in prospect. Publication is subject to peer review; editors are also to some extent constrained by space limitations.

Interested scholars should write to the Project email address, historiography.cn [ät] gmail.com, or to one of the organizers, for a more detailed description of the background to and rationale for the Project.

See the PHACH call for contributions for more detailed information.
