Jialei Yang

Dr. Jialei Yang (jialei.yang@oulu.fi) is an Assistant Professor at Oulu Business School (University of Oulu), and a (part-time) Project Researcher at University of Helsinki. She received her doctoral degree from Oulu Business School (thesis in “Distinction”), supervised by Prof. Pia Hurmelinna-Laukkanen, and she was a visiting scholar at the Haas School of Business (University of California, Berkeley) in 2019, sponsored by Prof. Henry Chesbrough. In 2022, she was appointed as a SCANCOR Scholar at Stanford University, working with the research groups of Prof. Charles Eesley (Stanford Management Science & Engineering) and Prof. Sara Singer (Stanford School of Medicine).

Jialei’s research interests include innovation management (especially innovation appropriability and open innovation) and network management. Her research addresses dynamics in value creation, value appropriation, and inter-organizational collaborations, set in contexts such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and health care. Her work has been published in top-tier journals including Research Policy, California Management Review, and Technovation. Jialei also serves as an Editor and Scientific Coordinator of the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) and Editorial Board of Annual World Open Innovation Conference (WOIC). She is also a reviewer for Research Policy, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, Journal of Innovation Management, Applied Economics, AOM, and EURAM.

Jialei is now part of the research project “Work and AI in Transformation for Systemic Opportunities in Health Care Networks”, led by Prof. Tuija Mainela, which was previously “Systemic and Human Empowerment in the Revolution of Health Care (SHERLOC)”.
