Northern Finland Birth Cohorts and Arctic Biobank

University of Oulu has collected several extensive population survey data sets, such as the Northern Finland Birth Cohorts NFBC1966 and NFBC1986, and two cohorts from northern Finland aging individuals Oulu1935 and Oulu1945. As part of the Northern Finland Birth Cohorts – Research program for health and well-being cohort members have been studied on a regular basis since the fetal period.

Large collections of biological samples are administrated by Arctic Biobank – University of Oulu located at Infrastructure for Population Studies, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu.

Infrastructure for Population Studies provides basic education related to statistics at the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, we offer statistical services for students and researchers.

Northern Finland Birth Cohorts – Research program for health and well-being

Northern Finland Birth Cohorts comprise collections of data from large population studies that are administrated by the Infrastructure for Population Studies at the Medical Faculty, University of Oulu.

The Northern Finland Birth Cohorts form a longitudinal research program which aims to promote health and well-being of the population.

The data from the Northern Finland Birth Cohorts - Research program for health and well-being can be requested for research collaboration projects with University of Oulu.

Arctic Biobank

Arctic Biobank – University of Oulu was established in 2020 to host large population-based sample collections from Northern Finland. Biological samples and relating data collected before 2013 in Northern Finland Birth Cohorts – Research program for health and well-being can be requested from Arctic Biobank.

Arctic Biobank aims to promote research in health and well-being, and in medicine and life sciences. It provides samples and data for high-quality research projects aimed at elucidating the causes of disease and the impact of genetics, environment, and lifestyles on their onset.

Statistical services and teaching

Infrastructure for Population Studies offers teaching in statistics to undergraduate students of medicine, dentistry and nursing sciences. In addition, we offer statistical services for students and researchers.
