Petri Kursula

I am a structural biologist interested in macromolecular structure, function, and dynamics. My main focus is related to the formation of the vertebrate nervous system myelin sheath at the molecular level.

I got my PhD at the University of Oulu in 2000. After 3 post-doc positions (Oulu, Hamburg, Stockholm), I was an Academy Research Fellow (2006-2010), starting my own research group. I spent 2011-2014 at the DESY synchrotron in Hamburg, and have been employed as a professor at the University of Bergen (Norway) since 2014. I have been Biocenter Oulu project leader 2012-2015 and 2020-2023, and I hold a 10% professorship at the University of Oulu 2018-2022.
