How study psychologists at University of Oulu helped me deal with my study related anxieties

Having found myself in the midst of winter blues, homesickness and a rigorous academic session; I was barely able to keep it together. I tried brushing off all the anxious feelings, kept myself busy and also constantly reminded myself how I was sabotaging this amazing opportunity to study in one of the best universities. No matter what I told myself, I was just unable to shake off those feelings. It manifested itself in me through restlessness, lack of focus, procrastination and irregular sleep schedules.

Help from study psychologist

Unable to keep it under control anymore, I decided to consult a study psychologist from the university’s website I had once seen. The process to book the meeting was fairly easy and hassle free. Which reminds me, the service is also absolutely free! The communication was also very discreet and hence I felt extremely safe to confide in.

Talking to the study psychologist helped me realize that I was dealing with anxiety related issues and that it was somehow common to feel this way. All my concerns and worries were validated and I felt really seen and heard. There was no judgement at all. Additionally, the psychologist also helped me to discover some tools and techniques that helped me to manage my schedules better and to be on top of things.

After the meeting

I applied the techniques I was suggested and it helped me be in control of my studies and eventually my everyday life. There was also a follow up after several weeks to see how I was doing and it made me feel really special. My mind was at so much ease and it translated into my grades and interest in what I was studying. Moreover, it also helped me to shift my perspective to be really present in the moment and appreciate the opportunity to be here in this beautiful country.
