The Foundation has also previously supported the University of Oulu Business School and its researchers with donations and grants. The present donation is part of the Finnish Government’s matched funding programme.

Donation strenghtens the field of business and economics

The Marcus Wallenberg Foundation goal is to promote education and research in business management. With this donation foundation wants to further strenghten the Oulu Business School.

"The foundation values especially new multidiciplinary openings and strong international focus at the Oulu Business School. With the donation we want to support further development of the field of business at the University of Oulu”, says CEO of the Marcus Wallenberg Foundation Stefan von Knorring.

“It is important that we conduct research that promotes the future success of Finnish business and companies. This donation plays an important role in enhancing business research. The donation enables new strategic initiatives and recruitments. I would like to extend my warmest thanks to the Marcus Wallenberg Business Economics Research Foundation for this important donation that promotes our common goals,” says Mikko Puhakka, Dean of the Business School.

Important research themes at the University of Oulu Business School include business dynamics, good business management and ethics of senior management, digital business and future business models, and business-to-business marketing.

In autumn 2020, the University of Oulu launched an international Master's programme in Business Analytics, which has been designed and will be implemented in a multidisciplinary manner with the Business School and the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. The students in the programme have access for example to the expertise of researchers in the university's 6G flagship programme, which makes the programme unique both in Finland and internationally. The further development of the degree programme will continue at the Business School.

“Multidisciplinarity and internationality are our strengths. In the future, we want to continue to invest in high-quality education and research and this donation is an important additional resource”, continues Dean Puhakka.

The Finnish Government supports donations to universities by foundations, companies and private persons with matched funding. The donor may direct a donation of at least EUR 10,000 to the development in the field of education of their choosing. The Government's matched funding programme will continue until the end of June 2022. The University of Oulu will channel the donated funds to activities that, in line with the university’s strategy, increase the effectiveness and impact of research through, for example, top recruitments and new research initiatives.
