Enrollment and further information
The course consists of three parts:
A. An online course (max. 5 weeks) covering general ethical topics applicable to all fields of research. This part of the course is shared by all Finnish universities. This part of the course is available in Finnish (only) in the Spring session and in English (only) in the Autumn session;
B. Field-specific lectures (6 h). Students must attend all lectures of at least one of the field-specific topics (1 – 3) listed below. This part of the course is available in English (only) in the Autumn session, and in Finnish (only) in the Spring session.
C. Data management lecture (2 h). This part of the course is available in English (only) in the Autumn session, and in Finnish (only) in the Spring session.
Education description
After the course the doctoral researcher is familiar with the ethical codes of research, and able to recognize and analyse ethical problems relating to different fields and stages of research.Doctoral researchers know what is data management plan and where data can be stored.
Ethical theory and ethical problem solving. Professional ethics. Ethical problems characteristic to different sciences. Good scientific practice and procedures for handling misconduct and fraud in science. Ethical problems regarding the relation between science community and wider society.
Also the content of data management plan (DMP) is introduced and data management in general. Content includes also the introduction to possible data storages, opening of data and metadata.
