The Afternoon Cup of Science: What’s the role of mobility in building sustainable cities?

Welcome to join the University of Oulu’s second LinkedIn Live Event program called “The Afternoon Cup of Science” on the 21st of March, from 14:00 to 14:30. In this program, we will discuss the role of mobility in building sustainable cities over a cup of afternoon coffee or tea. In this program series an early-career researcher from the University of Oulu and a guest from outside the University will have a low-threshold discussion about a common topic. In this episode, Valtteri Ahonen and Harri Vaarala will share their thoughts on how mobility should be implemented to make cities sustainable.

Valtteri Ahonen is this episode’s early-career researcher from the Civil Engineering Research Unit, where he is working on his doctoral dissertation about smart mobility and its sustainability. He works with the Horizon 2020 project AURORAL where he is assessing the sustainability of smart mobility projects.

Harri Vaarala is our guest from the City of Oulu, where he works as a Traffic Engineer to build a more sustainable traffic system through improving the cycling network. He is also working on a doctoral dissertation to the Tampere University about the next developmental leap of cycling in Finland.
