Festival of Cultures 2024

Festival of Cultures programme is designed by culture teams – consisting of our very own students and staff. Culture teams hold interactive workshops, musical performances, dance shows or other activities highlighting diversity, and all the different fusions of cultures represented within our university community.

Sign up for culture teams is open on Webropol until 25.10.2024. Please read the information on this page and on the registering form carefully before signing up.

We will hold an open info session for everyone interested in the event on Monday 14.10.2024 at 4 pm at Tellus Stage, Linnanmaa. Come by and hear, what’s in store in November for the festival! In the info session, we will explain the role of culture teams as well as go over the event concept in general. The info session is open to all – no registration needed. Attending the info session does not bind you into participating in the event.

The Festival of Cultures is open to everyone from the Oulu area. However, every registered culture team must have representation of either students of staff from the University of Oulu or Oamk, Oulu University of Applied Sciences. The whole event program will be held in English.

Festival of Cultures underscores the importance of human connection, global awareness, and tolerance.

This event is a celebration of cultures and diversity, not a place for politics or political demonstrations. Our focus is to celebrate our university community with a positive atmosphere. By attending the event, you agree to follow University Campus rules and regulations (which prohibit all political demonstrations and campaigns on campus). This event is free of harassment, discrimination, and bullying in all forms. If you see or experience any inappropriate behavior, please contact University staff at the event info point.

Photography

Photographing and filming is taking place at Festival of Cultures and Study Abroad Fair. If you enter the event area, you may be filmed and/or have your picture taken.

Data protection notice - University of Oulu events

Accessibility

The Linnanmaa campus area of the University of Oulu is accessible. There is an unobstructed passage through main door 2T to the event. Accessible toilets can be found e.g. near the R entrance. For more info, see the campus map (pdf).

Safety and allergens

The cultural activities may offer food samples and other consumables during the event. While we have required all teams to present complete lists of allergens and ingredients, we cannot guarantee that the food has been inspected for allergens or cross-contamination. All visitors consume the food offered at their own risk!

Arrival and parking

2T is the closest entrance to the event area.

The bus stop is located on Erkki Koiso-Kanttilan katu in front of entrance 2T. The bus stop at Linnanmaa's main entrance 2T is called “University”. Bus schedules on the website of public transport in Oulu.

There is plenty of room in our bicycle parking areas around the campus.

You can park at Erkki Koiso-Kanttilan katu and Yliopistokatu (P1 and P2) on the day of the event. Please note that parking is subject to charge. Map of Linnanmaa (pdf)
