The enormous increase in the number of disasters and crises affecting tourism globally has highlighted the significance of resilience building in the industry. While tourism has been one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy in recent decades, it is likely to be one of the worst impacted during a crisis. Its profound decline due to emergency measures and travel restrictions to combat the COVID-19 outbreak has brought forth the importance of resilience. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is far reaching with numerous destinations also grappling with other major stresses, shocks and crises. In response to the growing significance of the resilience and sustainability of destinations, the key aim of this is to provide new perspectives on how to (re) build a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient tourism in times of shocks and changes.
