18,356 applicants for Finnish-language degree programmes at the University of Oulu
The most popular fields of study in the second joint application period were medicine (4,191 applicants), economics (2,432 applicants), psychology (2,390 applicants), and teacher education (1,231 applicants). A total of 2,448 study places in 74 Finnish-language bachelor's and master's programmes are available at the University of Oulu.
Among the new study programmes, 232 people applied for the early childhood education teacher training held in Kajaani. The studies provide eligibility for early childhood education teaching positions in early childhood education and pre-school. With the education, the University of Oulu is responding to the shortage of teachers in the teaching and education sectors in the Kainuu and Ylä-Savo regions. There were 367 applicants for the new degree programme in health technology, which trains healthcare technology experts. Both new programmes offer 40 study places.
The primary selection method for bachelor's programmes in the joint application is based on certifications. Additionally, entrance examinations will be held in May–June for those applying to the university. The results of the certificate-based selection will be published no later than May 27, and the results of the entrance examination selection no later than July 4.

We are particularly delighted with the strong applicant numbers for the new programmes in early childhood education teacher training in Kajaani and health technology. The University of Oulu also received 259 applications through the open university path. In this application, the University of Oulu offers 240 study places for bachelor's programmes and 24 for master's programmes. Those who have completed the required studies and the required educational background for the study option have been able to apply to the University of Oulu through the open university path.
