Arctic attitude meets Latin American culture: Research-based international business management education starts

Research-based education helps to understand current and future global challenges and to find innovative solutions for businesses. The partners see that MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) have become the much-needed way of organizing and scaling online courses, for growing careers and sustaining competition in education markets. Free online courses can be helpful to become employable for global markets and get an in-depth idea in managing teams and sustainable businesses. In the ACOT (Arctic & Cerrado Online Training) project three courses will be created and piloted. After the piloting phase, the target is to open them for further use.

In 2023, the ACOT project received funding from the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) under its Team Finland Knowledge Program. University of Oulu (UO), Oulu University of Applied Sciences (OUAS) and Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) work together to develop and offer three online courses. The former collaboration can be widened among the staff of each partner organization by working visits during the project. Personal meetings help to establish a virtual network and to boost online cooperation.

In the ACOT project, arctic attitude meets Latin American culture as two Finnish higher education institutions and a Brazilian university located in the Cerrado area combine their expertise and expand collaboration in research into education, and design new models for cooperation.

The first course, Managing Sustainability through Responsible Leadership, is now open for registration until 31st December 2024. After completing this course, we expect participants to be able to plan responsible leadership practices as a manager or as an entrepreneur, know how to critically assess common sustainability KPIs and metrics and how to plan and evaluate sustainable communication practices, and understand opportunities and challenges in responsible leadership.

The target audience for this course includes international students at bachelor, master or doctorate level aiming to become business professionals or entrepreneurs as well as individuals aiming to the public sector, who want to develop their competence on sustainability management and responsible leadership while boosting their career perspectives.
The course is developed in English, 100% online and participants who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate for five credits (135 hours).

Two other courses will be offered in spring 2025, starting in February and March.
