Are you already familiar with our learning and wellbeing support services?

The aim of the Learning Support and Wellbeing Centre is to make visible the services that support students' learning ability and wellbeing.

We offer services to support your studies and career development, regardless of your degree programme. You can access these services whenever your studies feel challenging, you are uncertain about your career path, or you need coaching for job-seeking and related matters.

Our learning support services include:

  • study guidance and Study Coaching,
  • support from study psychologists,
  • career counselling and job-seeking training at the Career Centre, and
  • DigiLukiseula, a screening tool for Finnish-speaking students suspecting dyslexia.

You can come to study guidance if you need support with tudy planning, progressing studies, increasing study motivation, managing stress and time, and tackling challenges related to thesis writing. Study Coaching offers one-to-one coaching if you need support in studying, want to improve self-awareness and self-compassion, or wish to enhance your time management skills.

Study psychologists provide specialised support for study-related difficulties, such as study skills, time and life management, difficulty in getting started, perfectionism, performance anxiety, coping with stress, motivation issues, or thesis-related challenges. Wellbeing courses are also available on Moodle.

You can apply for the DigiLukiseula screening if you are Finnish-speaking and suspect you may have difficulties with reading and/or writing (dyslexia). This test is conducted twice a year. If there are signs of dyslexia, students are referred to Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) for further examinations.

At the Career Centre, you can receive support for job-seeking, finding an traineeship or thesis placement, and articulating your skills. We also organise job-seeking workshops and career groups. You can find the Career Centre on the Linnanmaa campus, opposite the green coat racks (YT101). You are welcome to drop by during opening hours without an appointment or book a personal guidance session.

During the spring term, the following study groups are available:

  • VENE – Peer support for neurodiverse students
  • Höllää otetta – A group for students struggling with high self-demands
  • Study Together study groups
  • Career Centre job-seeking workshops

Services provided and developed by the new Learning Support and Wellbeing Centre

At the beginning of the year, a new unit called the Learning Support and Wellbeing Centre was established at the university. This unit is responsible for providing and developing the services mentioned above.

The centre is staffed by experts in career and study guidance, study psychologists, and sports designers. Some of the services offered by the centre are also available to Oamk students and staff. The centre is led by Kauko Keskisärkkä.

In addition to the university, student wellbeing services are also provided by FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service), local parishes, the Student Union of the University of Oulu OYY, and student organisations operating under it. More information is available on the student website.
