The Board approved changes to SYK's leasing policy

The Board of Directors of the University of Oulu, in its meeting on 28.11.2024, approved changes to the leasing policy of University Properties of Finland Ltd (SYK), as proposed by SYK.

In Phase I, a unified national maintenance rent (€/m²/month) for all university facility leases will be agreed upon, effective from 1.1.2025. At the same time, lease agreement documentation will be standardised. Phase II is scheduled to come into effect in 2027.

The Board authorised the Rector to sign the new lease agreements between the University of Oulu and SYK, required by the changes, on terms deemed best. The new agreements will replace previously concluded lease agreements.

The Board had previously discussed the matter in its evening school on 12.11., where the CEO of SYK presented in detail the progress of handling the changes in the leasing policy, the reasons for updating the leasing policy, and the impacts on shareholder universities. The implementation of Phase I of the leasing policy requires the commitment of all SYK shareholder universities. The lease agreement documentation must be signed by December 2024.

The Board decided to extend the term of the Finance Committee selected from among its members for the year 2025. The committee's task is to prepare financial matters for the Board's consideration. The Board approved the updated rules of procedure for the committee. The committee members include Board members Mikko Ayub, Jukka Hiltunen, Pertti Korhonen, Lotta Pennala, Tiina Rajala, and Janne Saarikivi. The Finance Committee will elect a chair and vice-chair from among its members for the next term and invite the committee secretary.
