Call for applications: Summer school on “Resilience and sustainable development”

Global megatrends, such as climate change and digitalization, change people’s lives and affect regional development. These megatrends lead to challenges and threats, but also provide opportunities, highlighting the need for resilience. How can individuals, organizations, and regions develop resilient strategies and innovation cooperation to meet changes in their operational environment when developing sustainability? People, firms, and other types of organizations, and regions face unexpected changes in their economic and technological environment. How can we improve and support, for example, with the help of technology, our ability to adapt to these changes and promote well-being? How can digital transition support the green transition, and thereby improve sustainable development?
The first part of the course includes 5 online lectures and four workshop sessions during August 2024. The lectures will be available in the cloud during August, and the workshops will be scheduled together with applicants. The second part of the course will consist of a 5-day summer school in Oulu in September 2024. During the week students will familiarize themselves with the local challenges and problems of sustainable development and present possible concrete plans and solutions to solve them. Furthermore, the summer school includes visits to relevant local firms and organizations grappling with the issues of sustainable development.
To be selected for the course, students must agree to participate in summer school. Furthermore, you must be enrolled in a master’s or bachelor’s program at the University of Oulu and have a strong interest in resilience and sustainable development. You should also be able to communicate fluently in English. Participants are offered 5 ECTS for the course. Additional credits can be provided in exchange for an additional task if necessary.
To apply for the course, please submit a motivation letter of up to 500 words, explaining your interest and motivation for taking this course, your relevant background and experience, and how you hope to benefit from the program. Please include your full name and study program.
The deadline for applications is 17.5.2024. Successful applicants will be notified by 20.5.2024.
