Call for Master's thesis scholarships 2024-2025, sponsored by the ITEE Faculty

The Faculty of ITEE pioneers ICT technologies that shape the sustainable and secure digital future.
The Degree Programme in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), BA-CSE and BME are built on world-class research in various fields of information technology including machine vision, biomedical engineering, intelligent information analysis,
information security and ubiquitous Internet.
The research is carried out in three units: Biomimetics and Intelligent Systems Group (BISG), Center for Machine Vision and Signal Analysis (CMVS), and Center for Ubiquitous Computing (UBICOMP).

The ITEE Faculty offers six scholarships of 3000 € each, for Master’s thesis works starting during the academic year 2024-25. The scholarships are aimed for M.Sc. students of the University of Oulu enrolled in either the Degree Programme of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) or Business Analytics (BA-CSE), or Master’s Programme in Biomedical Engineering (BME).

The call is opened for students both in the Finnish and International 2-year degree programmes. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, the applicant must satisfy the following conditions:

1. The applicant has obtained at least 60 credit points during the academic year 2023-2024 (by 31.7.2024).

2. The applicant has submitted the mandatory training report for the 521027S Advanced practical training, 5 ECTS cr course for evaluation before this call’s deadline.

3. The applicant has not previously received any financial support for the Master’s thesis work, nor should the candidate have a concurrent employment relationship during the scholarship term, i.e. for a period of 6 months starting from the date the scholarship is awarded (i.e. paid), to the recipient, as the scholarship is mean to support full-time work on the Master’s Thesis. The applicant cannot accumulate more than one scholarship for the same end.

The Faculty of ITEE is committed to offering inspiring Master’s thesis topic and high-quality supervision to the scholarship awardees as well as facilities for conducting the research. The applicant should have a preliminary thesis topic and commitment from the supervisor before applying. Eligible supervisors are listed here. Submit your electronic application to Anabela Berenguer (anabela.berenguer@oulu.fi) by 30th September 2024 with the following documents:

1. Curriculum Vitae;

2. Latest transcript of records;

3. Motivation letter describing briefly your research interests and the preliminary thesis topic;

4. Email/letter of support from the supervisor indicating the topic and commitment to supervise the thesis.

The subject field of the email must be Application for Master's thesis scholarship -ITEE_2024 [familyname_first name]. Attachments must be in a pdf format and the following naming convention should be used: Motivation_familyname_firstname, CV_familyname_firstname , Transcript_familyname_firstname, Commitment_ familyname_firstname.

Note: The decisions will be made in early October, by the Degree Programme Committee. The scholarship is paid after the applicant’s Master’s thesis topic application has been duly processed via LATURI, and before December 15, 2024. Exceptions to this deadline may apply, at the Faculty’s own discretion.
