Campus guards as part of campus safety

Security services on the Linnamaa and Kontinkangas campuses are provided by Avarn Security Oy.

At the Linnamaa campus, a campus security guard is available around the clock, 24/7, and on the Kontinkangas campus, a security guard is present on weekdays from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The Linnamaa teacher training schools and science garden are also part of the Linnamaa campus. The Linnanmaa campus security guard's workstation can be found in the university's central lobby in space TF101. In Kontinkangas, the security guard's workstation can be found in the lobby of Kieppi, next to the logistics center.

Campus security is part of the university's daily security work. Security guards play an important role in maintaining campus security and work in close cooperation with the university's lobby services. Advising and guiding customers is one of the most important tasks of a security guard.

The duties of campus guards include:

  • Campus supervision together with lobby services
  • increasing public safety through presence
  • door openings
  • Verification of access cards
  • Remote monitoring with cameras
  • Respond to alerts
  • Inspection tours of premises
  • Ensuring door locksn

Campus safety is a shared responsibility for all of us

When moving around the campuses, you should always carry an ID card and when the doors are locked, students should have a 24/7 access card with them. Card inspection is part of daily security work and may be asked to show when moving around campuses. When the doors of the campus are locked, make sure that the door locks when you leave. Faulty doors can be reported to the campus security guard.

Avarn Security's shift supervisor Joni Kauranen says that, "You can contact campus guards with a low threshold and report even small observations that may affect campus safety."
