The Collegium thanks for the proposals for external board members

The University Collegium received a total of 92 proposals from the university community for external members of the Board of Directors of the University of Oulu for the upcoming four-year term. The current board's term will end at the end of 2025.

The University Collegium will appoint four external members, i.e. individuals who are not university staff or students, for the term from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2029. Students and staff had the opportunity to submit proposals for external members to the Collegium between 25 February and 14 March.

“Thank you for the diverse and well-reasoned proposals. We in the Collegium will utilise the proposals in the preparation of the matter,” says Helka-Liisa Hentilä, Chair of the Collegium.

Next, the Collegium will select the candidates and invite them for an interview before making the final decision. The Collegium aims to select the board members in its meeting before the summer holiday period.

External members of the board should represent a diverse range of expertise in societal life and the sciences or arts relevant to the university's field (University Act §15). External board members strengthen the university's connections to the broader society.

A total of 10 representatives will be elected to the Board of Directors for the upcoming term. Professors and other staff members will choose their representatives through administrative elections in the autumn of 2025. The student representatives will be chosen by the Student Union of the University of Oulu.
