Did you complete a master's or diploma thesis on strategy in 2024?

The Strategy Award of the Year 2024 is granted for an meritorious master's or diploma thesis on strategy, completed at a university or higher education institution. The competition is open to strategy-related master's and diploma theses completed in 2024. The grand prize is €2,500, with two additional finalists receiving €1,250 each. Authors may submit their work to the competition by 31 March 2025.

The Strategic Management Society of Finland (SSJS) presents the prestigious strategy award in cooperation with the Pirkko and Tarmo Vahvelainen Foundation. Studies are evaluated on the basis of the significance of the research problem, practical contribution, positioning in previous strategy research, empirical quality, and originality of the results. A specific criterion is the applicability of research and results to practice: to the activities and strategies of organizations to ensure effective sustainable development.
The winners will be selected by a panel appointed by the SSJS Board.

Instructions for participation and timetable

The author of the master's / diploma thesis must submit the following documents
electronically to SSJS at hakemukset@ssjs.fi by 31.3.2025:

  • Master's thesis (link)
  • Final statement / evaluation report
  • A free-form application letter (max. 2 pages) in which the author summarizes
    the Significance of their work from the perspectives listed below.

The application should clearly define the specific strengths of the study and its
rationale.

  • Significance of the research problem
  • Positioning on previous strategy research
  • Significance of the results for previous research as well as for business,
    organizational activities and actors
  • Applicability of results to practice: to the activities and strategies of
    organizations to ensure effective sustainable development.
  • Specific strengths of the study and their rationale
