Digi-HTA, the new method for assessing digital health services

Digital solutions are nowadays becoming everyday business also in healthcare sector. Until yesterday, there was no dedicated health technology assessment (HTA) criteria and process for those novel digital healthcare services such as mHealth, robotics and artificial intelligence in Finland.

Based on this need, new assessment criteria called Digi-HTA has now been created in Oulu, in cooperation with the Finnish Coordinating Center for Health Technology Assessment (FinCCHTA) and two units from Faculty of Medicine, University of Oulu (Medical Imaging, Physics, and Technology and Centre for Health and Technology). The aim is to establish national HTA criteria and process and that way support decision makers better. Pilot assessments for medicine dispensing and rehabilitation robots are ongoing at the moment.

The scientific background and criteria are presented in the article: Haverinen J et al (2019) Digi-HTA: Health technology assessment framework for digital healthcare services. Article is published in Finnish Journal of eHealth and eWelfare vol 11 no 4. The assessment criteria creation is part of DigiHealth Hub project, funded by European Regional Development Fund.
