EXCEED - project launched
EXCEED - project, launched in January 2023, issues cost-effective, sustainable and responsible extraction routes for recovering distinct critical metals and industrial minerals as by-products from key European hard-rock lithium projects.
Approaches of the project are based on multi-metal/mineral and zero-waste mining-and-refining perspective that adopt a mineral-centric, integrated methodology via the application of a first-of-its-kind predictive and forensic geo-metallurgy, supported by enhanced in-line characterization tools and the development of digital twins.
The project (2023-2026) is coordinated by VTT and funded by EU Horizon. Project consortium consists 15 partners from different parts of Europe.
University of Oulu´s research themes and contact persons in the project:
- Research towards by-product recovery
Prof. Saija Luukkanen, Head of the Oulu Mining School
- Valorization of industrial and residual minerals in construction material
Senior Researcher Priyadharshini Perumal, Fibre and Particle Engineering unit
- Digital twin for model-based decision making
Senior Researcher Jari Ruuska, Environmental and Chemical Engineering unit
