Fields of science on the rise in the global Times Higher Education ranking
Computer science was the most successful field, rising to the 126–175 bracket. In engineering and education, the university is now ranked among the top two hundred universities in the world. Physical sciences increased its ranking by 100 positions from last year.
Each year, the Times Higher Education comparison ranks 500 of the world's best universities in eleven different fields of science. A total of seven fields at the University of Oulu were ranked among the best. Only life sciences and social failed to make the list, as the number of personnel was too small.

The Times Higher Education rankings are based on 13 indicators that assess the teaching, research and citations in each field of science. The ranking also assigns a small weight to external funding and internationality in the field of science. The weights assigned to the indicators used in the evaluation vary by field. In teaching and research, reputation evaluations provided by the members of the scientific communities are emphasised.
Times Higher Education – World University Rankings published its list of the world’s best universities earlier this year. The University of Oulu rose to the 251-300 bracket in the comparison.
