Interesting in studying new technology to reduce the CO2 emissions of the steel industry?
We are looking for a motivated doctoral researcher with a full-time 4-year contract to join the Process Metallurgy Research Unit at the University of Oulu. With close to 50 employees, we are one of the largest research units in our field in Europe and collaborate with leading research institutes and the steel industry.
In this position, the doctoral researcher will be studying the reduction of chromite ore to produce ferrochrome. More specifically, the doctoral researcher will study experimentally the pre-reduction of chromite with gaseous reductants and hydrogen plasma smelting reduction of the pre-reduced material using laboratory-scale furnaces. The results will be characterized using metallographic methods with supporting optical emissions spectroscopy measurements from the plasma. This position is excellent for any engineer or natural scientist aiming to boost their career with an internationally recognized doctoral degree.
Besides being a great place to work, Oulu is a great place to live with good public services, affordable housing, and a high quality of life.
