Kick-off Meeting for Kvantum Institute Spearhead Projects 2025-2028

During the kick-off event, researchers responded to online MessageWall surveys, which highlighted a strong interest in Kvantum's multidisciplinary research environment. This underlines the value of collaboration across different research fields. The benefits of multidisciplinarity were seen particularly in the potential for a broader theoretical foundation for research and the possibility of achieving more impactful results.
Scientific Director Seppo Vainio addressed the need for cross-fertilization of disciplines as a means for science-based development and adapting to global change. He stressed the importance of integrating knowledge from different fields to promote innovation and a comprehensive understanding of phenomena.
Research Director Jussi Paakkari advised the new generation of researchers to look beyond their own research and called for interaction at all levels, including units, projects, and most importantly, people. He highlighted that various forms of collaboration are often crucial for the research work itself, career development, and future opportunities for researchers.
The Kvantum kick-off event set a positive tone for the new project period 2025-28. The Kvantum Institute will form a collaborative entity from the 15 projects that have now started, where researchers at different stages of their careers receive not only salary funding but also visibility, peer support, and the opportunity to interactively develop the activities they need. This approach is intended to benefit all parties and promote an encouraging and productive research environment.
