The University of Oulu student and staff accounts have multi-factor authentication, MFA, in use. MFA practically means that login is authenticated by phone. This practice will be extended from 15 February 2022 to include so-called guest users.

Guest user accounts are email addresses that have been used to invite external members to the University of Oulu Teams from other organizations, or to share content from OneDrive or SharePoint environments at the University of Oulu. The University of Oulu staff and student addresses are not guest accounts in the university's own Microsoft 365 environment, but for example the student's gmail address may be.

From 15 February 2022, phone authentication is required for all guest accounts. The next time a guest user logs into the university's MS 365 environment, the More information required notification directs him to set a method that he will use to authenticate logins in the future.

See more information and instructions on how to configure and manage guest account MFA settings.
