Professorship in Business Ethics to be established at the Oulu Business School

A new 5-year professorship in Business Ethics will be established at the Oulu Business School in the University of Oulu. The professorship focuses on teaching and studying business ethics and values, and is funded by Oulun Kauppaklubi foundation, the University of Oulu, and the state of Finland.

The rector of University of Oulu, Jouko Niinimäki, revealed the news on 10 May during the Arvoseminaari, a high-level seminar about leadership responsibility and value leadership held annually in Oulu. The business ethics professorship is of great importance to the University of Oulu and the Business School. The professorship, which emphasizes responsibility, is topical and complements the research conducted at the Oulu Business School well.

“The professorship fits very well with the strategy of the business school and supports our already strong research on responsible business. The donation is especially important for our education. Future business decision-makers need more and more tools to outline the ethical dimensions of their decisions”, says Janne Järvinen, the Dean of the Oulu Business School.

The call for the professorship in business ethics will be international, and the person selected for the position will have a great deal of influence over what they do.

The core of the operations of the Oulun Kauppaklubi funding the new professorship, is the promotion of companies’ ethical values, responsible management, and business ethics. Oulu Business School warmly thanks for the donation which is part of the University of Oulu’s fundraising campaign that will continue until the end of June.
