Researchers traveling: 11th European Continuous Casting Conference (ECCC2024)
The conference was hosted by the Steel Institute VDEh and held during 7–11 October 2024 at the Philharmonic in Essen, Germany. Over 350 professionals from both industry and academia participated in the conference and contributed to nearly 100 presentations on various topics related to industrial continuous casting processes.
Professor Qifeng Shu presented his research regarding the modeling of the properties of casting powders titled "Calculation of Nonbridging oxygen per Tetrahedron (NBO/T) of Mould Fluxes from 29Si Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Its Application in Property Estimation” on Wednesday, October 9th. On October 10th, M.Sc. Julius Norrena presented his research regarding quality prediction titled “Phenomenological Framework for Online Quality Prediction in Continuous Casting of Steel”. M.Sc. Jari Ruokamo presented his research regarding industrial casting powders titled “On the Laboratory-scale Assessment of Mould Powders for High-speed Casting” on Thursday, October 10th.
The three presentations given by the researchers of the Process Metallurgy Research Unit at the ECCC2024 provided a detailed view into the research work conducted at the University of Oulu in collaboration with the industry regarding the development of future continuous casting processes. In addition to the technical sessions, the conference included an industry exhibition and visits to local steel plants that provided an excellent opportunity for networking.
