Researchers traveling: Visit to TU Bergakademie Freiberg’s Institute of Iron and Steel Technology
A slight snowfall appeared on the morning of our visit as we headed towards the institute. Upon arriving at the historical building “Ledebur-Bau” where the institute is located, we met the head of the institute, Professor Olena Volkova, and her team. After their warm welcome and introduction to their institute, laboratory, and research work, Professor Qifeng Shu, in turn, introduced our university, research unit, and research. Fruitful discussions were held regarding common interests in research and EU project proposal. M.Sc. Jari Ruokamo presented his research work on mould powders and discussed the possibility of future research collaboration. After an insightful meeting, we headed to lunch together, followed by a comprehensive laboratory tour in the afternoon led by researchers M.Sc. Alberto Angelini, M.Sc. Stefan Andrä, and M.Sc. Lukas Neubert.
After visiting the institute, we had a bit of time left to explore the “silver” city of Freiberg, including a visit to Terra Mineralia, one of the largest mineral and gem museums in the world. The visit day ended with a dinner with professor Volkova and her team. The visit strengthened the partnership between our institutes and initiated cooperation on steel research projects.
