SAB member professor Hirokazu Kato: “How can we enrich our capabilities with machine intelligence without becoming too dependent on it?”
When asked about his definition of hybrid intelligence, professor Hirokazu Kato explains:
"Hybrid Intelligence is the collaboration of individuals or groups of humans with machine intelligence to solve difficult problems that they cannot solve themselves or that machines cannot solve alone, or to improve their own capabilities".
Professor Kato highlights some of the most interesting questions around the topic of Hybrid Intelligence right now.
"When humans become able to utilize machine intelligence superior to their own, how can we design human-computer interaction that allows us to use it to enrich our lives and contribute to the improvement of our own capabilities - without becoming too dependent on it and hindering the improvement of our own capabilities?" he ponders.
Hybrid Intelligence programme has the possibility to create some examples how humans can improve daily lives with artificial intelligence
Looking ahead, professor Kato has high hopes for the Hybrid Intelligence research programme.
"I expect to see some examples of how humans can use better artificial intelligence to improve their daily lives," he said.
Reflecting on his visit to Oulu and the research programme, Kato shares:
"It was inspiring to see so many talented researchers coming together and working towards the common goal of realizing Hybrid Intelligence".
