Trust in AI was a big theme in collaboration of Delft University and University of Oulu at Arctic AI Day 2024
Trust in AI, AI-based Perception and Augmented reality were Hybrid Intelligence core themes this year at the Arctic AI Day in Oulu.
Workshop on integration of human intelligence and artificial intelligence was a lead to Arctic AI Day
The lead to Arctic AI Day kicked off on 18th of November with Pre Arctic-AI Day workshop at LeaF, University of Oulu where HI programme had visiting scholar lectures with these themes:
-
Trust AI
-
Multimodal data Collection and Analytics
-
Emotion and Cognition AI
The workshop on Hybrid Intelligence focused on the integration of human intelligence and artificial intelligence (AI), aiming to leverage the strengths of both. It brought together researchers, practitioners, and scholars to discuss theoretical foundations, practical applications, and ethical implications of Hybrid Intelligence.
The workshop emphasized the complementary nature of AI's data processing capabilities and human creativity, emotional understanding, and ethical reasoning. It explored cognitive and computational models from various disciplines to understand how human and machine intelligence can be harmonized. The event encouraged transdisciplinary collaboration to foster new research partnerships and innovative approaches in fields like education, healthcare, business, and public policy. By bringing together diverse expertise, the workshop aimed to foster new research partnerships and inspire innovative approaches to the development and application of Hybrid Intelligence.
Presentations were given by Myrthe Tielman and Agnes Axelsson from Delft University of Technology, The Hybrid Intelligence Centre, and Marija Slavkovik from University of Bergen (UiB), University of Oulu researchers Stephanie Tan, Fang Kang, Yueyi Yang, and our HI programme researchers Susanne Uusitalo, Haoyu Chen, Andy Nguyen. Exciting hands-on Multimodal data collection session was held with Luna Huynh and Ridwan Whitehead, LET Lab - Learning and Educational Technology Research Lab.
Artic AI Day Keynote by Myrthe Tielman dived into concept of appropriate mutual trust in human-AI interaction
Assoc. Prof. Myrthe Tielman from Delft University of Technology gave a keynote "Appropriate mutual trust in human-AI interaction" at the Artic AI Day in Oulu.
Insightful keynote reminded us that trust is the key factor in human interactions. That is why we need to make AI understand us and explain its´ decisions to us better for us to be able to trust it. Trust is a central lens in approaching this topic, trying to understand how humans trust AI, how AI can influence this trust appropriately, what it means for an AI to be trustworthy, and even how AI could use the concept of trust in its own decision making.
“Explainability of the AI system, communication between human and machine and understanding how to align with human values are key,” summarized Tielman.
Also HI researchers of University of Oulu gave presentations in theme session sharing their expertise:
-
Professor Juho Kannala “Geometric computer vision for augmented reality and autonomous systems”
-
Assistant Professor Haoyu Chen “Towards Hybrid Intelligence: AI-based Perception, Cognition and Synthesis”
This year's Arctic AI Day 2024 - Towards Transparent AI was organized by Hybrid Intelligence research programme, University of Oulu's Center for multidisciplinary research, Infotech, 6G Flagship and BusinessOulu.
