University of Oulu received 17,582 applications for Finnish-language programmes

A total of 17,582 applicants applied to the University of Oulu. The second joint application of the spring, which ended on Thursday 30 March, was for the Finnish-language bachelor's and master’s degree programmes of the university. The programmes have 2,383 study places in total. 5,605 applicants had the University of Oulu as their first option.

The number of applicants does not differ significantly from the previous year, and the popularity of the programmes remained largely the same. In this joint application, the most popular fields of education were medicine (4,002), psychology (2,378) and economics (2,070).

The Primary Teacher Education programme received a total of 1,379 applications. Several programmes in the field of education saw an increase in the number of applicants.

“It was great to see that the number of applicants also increased in several degree programmes in technology and ICT, such as Process Engineering, Construction and Civil Engineering as well as Health and Nursing Sciences. I would like to thank all the applicants for their trust,” says Marja Jokinen, Communications Director at the University of Oulu.

In the second joint application, students for the bachelor's degree programmes will be selected based on certificates. In addition, entrance examinations will be held in May and June. The results of the certificate-based selection will be published no later than 29 May and of the entrance examination selection no later than 7 July.

250 applicants via the open university path

The University of Oulu also received 250 applications through the open university path. Students can be admitted to the university when they have completed the required number of studies at the open university with good grades. The university's bachelor's programmes have 255 study places available and the master's programmes 34 via the open university path.
