University of Oulu refines its property strategy and explores location options in collaboration with the City of Oulu

On Tuesday, 4th June, the City of Oulu provided updates on discussions held by city council groups regarding the university's location options within the city. The city aims to conduct a location feasibility study of different options in collaboration with the university during 2024-2025. The mayor will appoint a working group composed of city officials.

"We thank the City of Oulu for their cooperation and will continue to explore options within the joint working group. Decisions regarding the campus solutions will be made only when we have a comprehensive understanding of the different options and their potential," says Mikko Ayub, Chairman of the Board of the University of Oulu.

"This study provides a natural point to refine the university's property strategy, which will examine the future property needs of the university. Possible options will be evaluated from the perspectives of research, education, and collaboration, and it is crucial to understand the financial frameworks of the different options. The campus is the operational environment of the university, and property solutions also represent a significant economic issue for the university," says Pertti Korhonen, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Board of the University of Oulu.

The Board of the University of Oulu will discuss the progress in its upcoming meetings.
