Visit Hybrid Intelligence Research Program Mobility Grants
HI mobility grants are available to scholars who wish to visit the University of Oulu and have found a host here, or HI scholars who would like to visit another academic institution in Finland or abroad. Incoming visits can be funded for periods between 2 weeks to 3 months with a grant of €3000 per month. Outgoing visits are reimbursed based on travel and accommodation costs (Max. €3000 per month). We aim to respond to applications with a decision within one month of submission.
Both incoming and outgoing visits can range from 2 weeks to 3 months.
The grant for a) incoming and b) outgoing scholar visits is now open until 28.2.2025.
The grant in between Oulu HI and the Hybrid Intelligence Centre in the Netherlands has a rolling deadline.
The Hybrid Intelligence Mobility Grant is offered to:
a) Scholars interested in visiting the University of Oulu's Hybrid Intelligence (HI) theme, or
b) Researchers affiliated with the HI theme (open to everyone at the University of Oulu) who wish to visit another academic institution within Finland or abroad to collaborate on research, writing, or funding application activities, or
c) Researchers seeking grants to support mobility between Oulu and the Hybrid Intelligence Centre in the Netherlands.
A mobility visit can have various purposes, but the intended actions must align with the goals of Hybrid Intelligence research program.
- Proposed initiatives can span a wide range of disciplines (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering, learning sciences, health sciences, humanities etc.).
How to Apply
This call is open twice annually. Applicants are encouraged to:
- Identify an appropriate collaborator and request an invitation letter,
- Prepare a proposal aligned with the HI Research Programme and the External Collaborator, clearly defining the goals and justifications for the research visit,
- Specify the expected outcomes of the visit (in terms of contributions to HI research).
All results must be shared after the visit in the form of a seminar, talk, or publication presented to the HI programme. Additionally, the visit must be reported using this format:
The grant is intended to cover basic living costs such as accommodation and food, as well as travel costs to and from Oulu. Please note that these grants do not cover conference or workshop participation; they are intended for directed institutional visits to produce high-caliber scientific outputs. Also, please note the grant does not cover daily allowances.
Applications for both a) incoming and b) outgoing grants must include the following:
-Cover letter (max 1 page)
-Invitation letter from the host (1 page)
-Mobility plan including a schedule for activities and outputs (max 2 pages);
-CV (max 4 pages)
-Budget Allocation.

To apply c) Grants supporting mobility in between Oulu HI and Dutch HI center
Applicants are encouraged to: familiarize with the partners’ offers, identify a suitable collaborator, prepare a proposal in accordance with HI research programme and the External Collaborator identifying clear goals and argument for the research visit. All results will be shared after the visit, in the form of a seminar/talk/publication given to the HI programme.
