The University of Oulu fosters diversity and works resolutely to promote equality and non-discrimination in working environment, in research and researcher training and in studies and teaching.

The goal is an inclusive and accessible university community where everyone feels a sense of belonging and where there is a culture of appreciation and trust.

What does it all mean, then? Join the Diversity and inclusion at the University event and find out!

The event is open to the entire university community, and will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, from 9 am to 12 pm on the Tellus Stage. The event can also be watched remotely.

At the beginning of the event, diversity specialist Sara Salmani opens the DEI terminology (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and explains the starting points for considering diversity and promoting inclusion in the university community. Questions and attitudes related to language and language skills are also at the center when the goal is an inclusive university community.

After her presentation, Salmani facilitates an intriguing panel discussion focusing on how to promote inclusion in the university community. Taina Pihlajaniemi, Vice Rector for Research and chairperson of the Equality and Diversity Committee; Jarmo Okkonen, HR Director; Mervi Heikkinen, university lecturer; Juan-Miguel Diaz Castro, university teacher; Essi Leinonen, OYY's social policy specialist and Linda Omodara, postdoctoral researcher, will take part in the panel discussion.
