Project description

Climate change and water scarcity pose significant challenges for environmental safety across industries, agriculture, public sectors, and even private citizens. Soluble arsenic is highly toxic and a growing concern. Worldwide, 94 to 220 million people are at risk from natural arsenic exposure, and at least 23 million live on floodplains contaminated by industrial arsenic waste. Even in some parts of Finland people are exposed to natural arsenic.

With the ACRA project, we're developing an affordable, easy-to-use tool for detecting arsenic in water. This sensor-based device will store data and offer advanced cloud services, with potential scalability for monitoring other contaminants, even in health applications.

We've identified several key user groups for our solution:

  • Industry: Ensuring water purification and quality for circulation or discharge.
  • Agriculture: Providing clean water for farming activities.
  • Governments and NGOs: Protecting public health through water and food quality monitoring.
  • Private citizens and rural communities: Addressing natural arsenic contamination in groundwater.

Our project will explore business opportunities based on research results and intellectual property rights. We'll investigate the best commercialization strategies, identify feasible business options, and create a roadmap for bringing our solution to market.
