Project description

The aim of the Icory (An intelligent customer-driven solution for orthopedic and pediatric surgery care) project consortium is to build a next-generation patient-centric digital solution for orthopedic and pediatric surgery care. The research group includes multidisciplinary group of experts, creators and visionaries from Finland-based companies, hospitals, universities and research organizations with global connections. There are two RCTs ongoing to evaluate 1) the effectiveness of the digital patient journey solution as part of the care for patients undergoing elective hip and knee arthroplasty (OYS) and 2) the effectiveness of the gamified digital solution targeted for the children and their parents in pediatric day surgery (HUS).

Project results

Based on the results of the project it is possible to apply and combine modern digital communication technologies, artificial intelligence, and robotics to take surgery care pathways to the next level. These technological solutions improve the transparency of the surgical treatment process, the patient experience and the quality of life. In addition, they make it possible to alleviate stress, pain and anxiety among children and adult patients when patient journeys can become playful and motivating stories with positive experiences. The ICory solution can also improve the communication with patients and their families.
