Investigating the geodiversity-biodiversity relationship under climate change

The aim of the project is to investigate the mechanisms and generalities of the geodiversity-biodiversity relationship under climate change. The project focuses on ecosystems most vulnerable to global warming: Arctic, Antarctic, and alpine tundra.

Project description

Centre for multidisciplinary research: Kvantum
Faculty: Science

The overarching aim of the project is to investigate the geodiversity-biodiversity relationship under climate change. It is important to understand how geodiversity influences biodiversity, how this relationship varies between the taxonomic, functional, and phylogenetic diversity, and if the relationship is climate context dependent. This project represents the very core of modern geosciences and geospatial modelling, and combines theory and tools of geology, geomorphology, hydrology, climatology, and biogeography. The project combines new statistical methods, state-of-the-art technology, and extensive spatio-temporal data at high-resolutions. Moreover, it promotes responsible science by producing openly available high-impact knowledge, transparent methods, and high-quality data on geodiversity for further use in the geosciences and biosciences.
