Bird ecology and conservation

Research group information

Research group description

Natural environments and changes occurring in them are crucial for ecosystem functioning. The wellbeing of humans is also dependent on the state of nature. Biodiversity loss is visible in the decline of species and environments and in the disruption of ecosystem functioning. Understanding the processes affecting biodiversity loss and its prevention requires both basic and applied research. One part of our research is basic ecological research that uses birds as model organisms. Research themes are largely linked to the causes of biodiversity loss. Thus, a large part of our research is applied conservation biology, where the main theme is viability of small and/or endangered populations. Our research is based on long-term data collected from individually marked populations.
