Abolfazl Jalali is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Water, Energy, and Environmental Engineering research unit, University of Oulu, and a member of the Hydrosystems Engineering & Management research group. Abolfazl got his PhD in Environmental Engineering (2019-2023), where his research primarily focused on river ice, a significant challenge in cold-climate environments. During his doctoral studies, he developed the RiMARS and RiTiCE tools, which are instrumental in quantifying river morphological properties and detecting the timing of various flow characteristics, particularly ice break-up events.
Abolfazl completed his Master's degree at University of Oulu (2016-2018), concentrating on river morphology quantification. His academic journey began with a background in Civil Engineering from Shahrood University of Technology (2009-2015).
Abolfazl is interested in employing top-edge data collection technologies, primarily wireless and remote data transmission protocols like LoRa, to enhance the monitoring of environmental parameters. Additionally, he is actively expanding his expertise in Structural Engineering, building on his foundational background in the field.
