Anniina Mertaniemi

I am a medical student with background in biotechnology and I work as a MD PhD student in the research group of Professor Johanna Myllyharju in the ECM and Hypoxia research unit. My PhD projects focus on the idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and de novo synthesis of collagen. In my work, I use bleomycin-induced fibrosis model and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) sponge model on gene modified mouse lines lacking key enzymes involved in the collagen biosynthesis and stability (C-P4H-II, LH1). My work includes histological, biochemical and functional analysis of lung as well as molecular biology and cell biology techniques.
