I am a researcher in lifecourse health. I divide my time as Professor of Lifecourse Medicine at University of Oulu and Research Manager at Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and also hold a Guest Professorship at Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.

I have been working over 20 years on Developmental Origins of Health and Disease framework and in particular focused on the health and well-being of children and adults born preterm in high and low resource settings. Our research combines in-depth studies of mechanisms underlying early life programming of lifelong health in clinical and population cohorts (including the Northern Finland Birth Cohort) with lifelong health studies in whole-population registers.

Research interests

  • Preterm birth, gestational diabetes and other pregnancy conditions from a lifecourse perspective
