Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine
I am currently responsible for FETopen Mindgap WP3 which is aiming to identify messages from the mind in body fluids. The project it-self is aiming to develop a device able to capture extracellular vesicles and read their RNA cargo to assess state of mind.
I have spent the last 5 years identifying and cataloguing RNAs from extracellular vesicles (EVs), human sweat was my main topic of research but I also participated in other projects aiming to identify renal cell carcinoma, uretric buds and fecal EV RNA using NGS
My main expertise is cell-cell communication via GPCR and TRP/P2X and HCN channels in the context of migraine pain and previously orexin signaling and neuronal differentiation. I have also expertise in hyaluronan (extracellular matrix) research, induction of hyaluronan secretion in response to stimuli like UVB and nucleotide, mostly using 3D organotypic keratinocyte culture, and investigation of hyaluronan synthase oligomerisation using FRET and co-immunoprecipitation
I have a PhD in animal biology from the university of Geneva in Switzerland and postdoc in Glasgow University, Genetics department on cysteine proteinase role in pathogenicity of parasitic protozoan Leishmania mexicana
